Foster Marcellus Batt Jr.

Graveside services for Foster Marcellus Batt, Jr, age 95, will be at 12pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 3599 W Historic Hwy 66, Gallup, NM.  Foster was born on February 8, 1928, in Hagerstown, Maryland, and worked for the Santa Fe Railway Co out of Gallup for over 30 years while living in Gallup.  He retired to Clearwater, FL, and remained there until his death on August 10, 2023.

While in Gallup, he enjoyed being a small airplane pilot, researching tales of lost gold mines in the area, starting businesses, and performing card tricks with playing cards.  His buddies on the railroad nicknamed him ‘Sharky’ as a reference to him being so adept at the sleight of hand.

Foster is survived by a wife, Agnes Batt of Clearwater, FL, a son, David Batt, of Albuquerque, NM, and five daughters, Alea Maria Deeter of Clearwater, FL, Teresa Mullican of Kenai, AK, Donna Nager, Deborah Johnson, and Brenda Batt, all three of Albuquerque, NM, and 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Foster was preceded in death by his father, Foster M Batt, Sr, his mother, Lena Moats, and two sisters, Marvene Spencer and Shirley Guessford.
