Leona Marie Montgomery-Hargis went home to be with the Lord on June 6th, 2024, in Farmington New Mexico. Leona was the third of seven children, born Dec 26, 1954, in Lincoln Illinois. to Luther Clarence and Barbara Lou Montgomery. She grew up in Illinois, then moved to New Mexico in 1971. There she met and married the love of her life Bill Hargis. They were married in February 1972 in Aztec at her mother’s house on Church Street.

Leona is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, William (Bill) of 49 wonderful years. Her sisters Linda, Loretta, Louise, Lisa and her brother Butch and her granddaughter Rosie and her nieces Lisa Ann, Stacey, and Nephew JW.

She is survived by her sister Luann Piersall, her children Rebecca Fielder, Tresa (Jimmy) Jones, Charles Loy (Steven), and Melissa Hargis, her stepchildren William Hargis, Belinda Preston (Gene), Brenda Clayton (Roger), and Chuck Hargis. Leona is also survived by 25 Grandchildren and 47 Great-grandchildren and 5 Great-great-grandchildren.

Leona enjoyed planning and hosting Thanksgiving, Christmas and many other events at her home. She enjoyed searching and bringing home treasures and spending time at the casino. She enjoyed going to the casino with her husband, going to yard sales with her sister, and kids. But Her favorite was playing solitaire on her tablet and watching Heartland, or the price is right on tv.

She looked forward to the yearly trips to the county fair, where she would meet up with family and friends and her very first stop would be the vendor pavilion (the free barn as she called it). She loved to regale her stories of concerts she had seen and back them up with autographed pictures and T-shirts.

Leona had many jobs over the years, the ones she loved most were being a wife and mother but most of all a grandma (GiGi to some). She held a great love for dogs and thru the years she had many. Lucy was her current companion and held and special place in Leona’s heart.

Pallbearers are Christopher (Dusty) Middlebrook, Colby Fielder, Zechariah Beevers, Brandon Fielder, Garry Burke, Matt Whitten, and Jimmy Jones.
