Lucia Alonzo

Lucia Alonzo passed away on May 14, 2021 at her home in Gallup, New Mexico, surrounded by her loving family. She was 87 years of age. Ms. Alonzo was born on December 13, 1933 in Gibson, New Mexico.

She worked for 47 years as a switchboard operator for the Gallup Telephone system and PHS. Ms. Alonzo was a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish. She enjoyed the casino, but will be remembered as an amazing cook that was legendary for her carne adovada. She loved the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be missed.

She is survived by her children; Robert Alonzo and his wife Theresa, Debbie Valdez and her husband Martin. Four grandchildren; Rachel Alonzo, Martin Valdez Jr., Denise Sprigg and her husband Kevin, and Daniela Valdez. Five Great-grandchildren; Macie, Jacob, Anthony, Raegan, and Kelsie. Her siblings; Pete Alonzo, Magdaleno “Kiki” Alonzo, Tony Alonzo and his wife Mary, Salvador Alonzo and his wife Ida Mae, Raymond Alonzo, Irene Romero and Maria Ukastine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Aniceto Alonzo and Juana Torrez Alonzo. A great-grandchild; Aisilet Valdez Her siblings; Jennie Vallez, and Gilbert Alonzo.

On Tuesday May 18, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, at 9:30 AM a Rosary will be recited, then at 10:00 AM a Mass will be celebrated with Father Abel Olivas, OFM officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers include; Rachel Alonzo, Martin Valdez Jr., Denise Sprigg, Daniela Valdez, Sammy Alonzo, and David Romero.

Honorary Pallbearers include; Pete Alonzo, Magdaleno Alonzo, Tony Alonzo, Salvador Alonzo, Raymond Alonzo, Irene Romero and Maria Ukastine.

Cope Memorial Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
