Melissa Ann Walters-Holland

August 1, 1977 — September 22, 2023

 

Melissa Ann Holland (Walters) age 46 passed away with her family by her side in Lubbock, Texas on September 22nd after a long battle with health issues.  Melissa was born on August 1, 1977 in Port Huron, MI to Cecil and Ellen Walters of Aztec, New Mexico. She married James Justin Holland on April 13th, 2002. They had three children, Aspen (22 years old) Abigail, (21 years old), and James Dallas (8 years old).

Melissa enjoyed life through music.  She excelled at playing piano, clarinet, singing vocals, and performing in the marching band (John Phillip SUSA).  She was accepted into Juilliard.  In 1989 Melissa won Miss Southwest Colorado Teen.  Melissa loved spending time teaching music to her daughters, son, and nephews.  Her love of music was brought into the classroom as a music teacher at Sacred Heart in Farmington, New Mexico.  She attended beauty school in Durango, Colorado.  Melissa worked for the NEA in Farmington, NM.  She also worked as an assessor in both Aztec, New Mexico and Ector County, Texas. Melissa’s true love was watching her children perform on the field, whether it was softball, soccer, or football. She was always their #1 fan.

Melissa is proceeded in death by Cecil Walters (father), Mark Walters (brother), and Tamara Holland (mother-in-law).  She is survived by Ellen Walters (mother), James Justin Holland (husband), Aspen Coffelt (Holland) (daughter), Tim Coffelt (son-in-law), Abigail Holland (daughter), James Dallas (son), Eric Walters (brother), Christine Walters (sister-in-law), Mark Walters (nephew), Brandon Walters (nephew), Dennis Holland (father-in-law), Nick Holland (brother-in-law), Amy Holland (sister-in-law), and numerous other aunts, uncles, in-laws and cousins. 

 

Melissa wanted all attendees to wear bright colors and remember the happy times.

 

October 3rd 1:00pm Alternate Choices followed by burial at Aztec Cemetery.  The reception will be at VFW in Aztec at 3:00pm.
