William Dwight Andrews Jr.

W.D. (Bill) Andrews passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021 in Farmington, New Mexico. He was born in Algona, Iowa on September 12th, 1936, to W.D. (Doc) & Pauline Andrews. Bill has one sibling, his older sister Beverly. His early years were spent in Algona where his father had a medical practice.  In 1948 his father had an opportunity to open a medical practice in Albuquerque, NM so the family relocated. Bill attended Albuquerque High and graduated in 1954.
After graduation he attended a year of college at UNM and then enlisted in the Army where he served in the Korean War and at various bases for 4 years as a heavy equipment operator.
He met the love of his life, Vernell, and married her while working for the uranium mines in Grants, NM. They were blessed with 3 children, Terri, Vern & Shannon. Bill and Vernell were married for 55 years.
Bill was owner operator of Bill Andrews Trucking hauling gravel and building roads in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nevada. After relocating to New Mexico to enjoy the more temperate weather, Bill continued to haul and deliver crude petroleum products and dry goods throughout the southwest.
Bill was known for his infectious smile and laughter. His life centered around his family. They shared many adventures together. Bill’s favorite activities were boating, fishing, camping, hunting, riding his ATV and spending time with his family.  He will be greatly missed by his family, extended family and friends.
Bill is preceded in death by parents, W.D. (Doc) Andrews Sr. and Nellie Pauline Swanson
Bill is survived by wife, Vernell Joy Andrews; son,  LaVern (Vern) Andrews (Laura); daughters, Terri Jo Chapman (Mitch), Shannon Rae Andrews; sister, Beverly Ann Alarid; grandchildren, Blain Chapman, Dalen Chapman, Hailey Chapman, Danielle (Austin) Mower, Caitlin (Nick) Watkins, Jordan Andrews, Jared Andrews. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews and extended family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 505 N. Oliver Drive, Aztec, NM with Bishop David Larson and Bishop Vern Andrews officiating.
