Frederick L. "Larry" Price

Thoreau, New Mexico

Frederick L. “Larry” Price was born in Gaithersburg, Maryland on June 2, 1941. He Passed

away on May 24, 2022 in Thoreau, New Mexico.

Adopted by the Medicine Horse family Larry participated in the Crow traditions and religious

activities. His Crow name was Sua bi lax pah kaa “Thunder Person”. Larry was a member of the

Sun Dance, both piercing and non piercing and a Pipe Carrier. Larry was a member of the Big

Lodge, Son, Brother, Uncle and Grandfather to the Medicine Horse Clan and Old Elk Clan.

Larry attended school in Gaithersburg, Maryland, graduated and joined the Navy in 1960,

moved to Montana after being honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1965. Larry moved to

Billings, Montana to work in housing development and construction. He later worked for his

father in Forsyth, Montana on a small cattle ranch. Larry participated in the Last Big Cattle Drive

in September 1989. Larry served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Ashland Sheriff’s Department in

Ashland, Montana and the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department in Hardin, Montana. Larry also

served as Resident Deputy stationed at Lodge Grass, Montana. He retired from the Sheriff’s

Department and moved to Thoreau, New Mexico in August of 1999. Larry accepted

employment as a Security Officer with Gallup Security Service for two years then took time off to

accept employment as a Criminal Investigator with the Navajo Nation Criminal Investigation

Division, Crownpoint, New Mexico. After retiring Larry returned to work for Gallup Security

Service as a Supervisor.

January 2006 Larry suffered a stroke, after a brief recovery period, Larry returned to work. Larry

suffered a second stroke and heart attack after which he retired completely from the security

field. Larry had then been home being cared for by his wife and family members.

Larry stated his greatest joy was being with his family. He enjoyed horseback riding, camping,

fishing, carpentry work, training dogs for K-9 service and attending Pow-wows, especially Crow

Fair in August. Larry enjoyed life and tried to live it to the fullest.

Larry is survived by his Wife: Mavis V. Price.

Children: Denise Price-Bryand-Arsenault. Frederick L. “Little Larry” Price. Daryl B Nomee, Tyree L. Nomee-Grainer, Lucille G. Nomee-Gun Shows. Curtis Juan, Marco Apachito, Christina Smith, Chee Smith, Eric Cooke, Stephanie Pablito and Emerson Largo.

Siblings: Bernard Lee. Price, Tyler Medicine Horse, Myrna Medicine Horse, D. “Peewee” Laforge, Patty Medicine Horse, Dora Rides the Horse and Janice Medicine Horse.

He is Preceded in Death by his Parents: Frederick L. “Lonnie” & Grace Anderson Price.

Siblings: Jeanie Price Cole, Thomas L. “Larsen” Medicine Horse. Thomas L. Medicine Horse Sr and Dan

Old Elk.

A Visitation will take place at Cope Memorial Chapel on Tuesday May 31, 2022 From 10:00 AM

to 2:00 PM. At 6:00PM family will transport to Bullis Mortuary in Harden, Montana where a service will take place on Friday June 3, 2022.
