Jimmie Lester Bailey

Jimmie Lester Bailey (81) passed away Sunday, November 13th 2022. He was born in Tucumcari, NM on March 4th, 1941 to Ernest and Bertha Bailey. He had three brothers and three sisters. He later moved to San Juan County area and had three daughters. In 1979 he opened Kirtland Pawn, which he ran for the next 40 years. He was an active member of the Lion’s Club, Elks Club, and the NM Horse Racing Association.

He is preceded in death by his parents – Ernest and Bertha Bailey, brothers – Clint Bailey, Milford Bailey, Glenn Bailey, and sister – Karen Bailey.

He is survived by sisters – Rita Lancaster (Dave) and Pam Apple (Gordon). Daughters – Cheryl Payne (Kirk), Peggy Bailey, and Ronda Bailey. Grandchildren – Lacey Payne, Lindy Meluso (Devin), Sunni Bingham (Nate), Ross Gutierrez, and Bailey Gutierrez. Great Grandchildren – Gavin, Grayson, Camdon, Cael, Reese, Rhett, Clara, Milea, and Calvin.

Jim supported the family and the community through his generosity, compassion, and the love of his small town of Kirtland. He was an avid supporter of the Four Corners Youth 4H/FFA and Rodeo Association. Our family is saddened with his passing, but we will forever cherish his memories and honor his legacy. He will be greatly missed by all. We love you Dad, Grandpa, and Papa Jim!
