Shannon Lee Monk

February 22, 1953 — April 15, 2022

Shannon Lee (Calder) Monk, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and business owner of Calder Services, Inc. went to her heavenly home on April 15, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin B. Calder. She left behind her mother, Imogene Calder, brothers Doug Calder (Monica) and Kelly Calder (Kelley), her husband of 52 years Chip Monk, children Amy Foust (Joe) and Chris Monk, as well as her eight grandchildren.
She was born February 22, 1953, in Oklahoma City but moved with her family to the Farmington area at 3 years old. She married the love of her life in 1970 and never looked back. Our mom had a knack for accounting, keeping the books at Calder Services while dad ran the trucks. They built a life together that we can all be proud of. She was the wind beneath his wings, always giving him the encouragement needed to get through the booms and busts of the oilfield.
As much as the company meant to her, it was obvious that being a mom and grandma brought her the greatest joy. She never left us kids wanting for anything, even when times were tough. She instilled in us the pride of ownership, the value of a hard day's work, and the power of unconditional love. Mom was our biggest fan. She never missed a game or school event. When grandkids came, she turned her full attention to them. She took every opportunity to spend time with them, spoiling them rotten.
Shannon loved to quilt. She had the talent and ability to make perfect corners. We will treasure memories of her in the sewing room, with the TV on some reality TV show. She was a great baker. Shannon could make perfect meringue peaks on the world's best coconut cream pie. We can still hear the giggles from baking cookies with her grandkids or making chicken and dumplings from scratch just a few weeks ago.
This obituary would not be complete if I didn't mention Jeeping. I believe my mom had the best time with my dad, sitting as his co-pilot in Skittles, or maybe those are my best memories. Either way, those were some really good times with good people.
This is how we choose to remember her; gossiping with her girlfriends, cheering from the bleachers, and holding our dad's hand bumping hips as they walk. She will always be the wind beneath his wings, but it was her time to fly.
